🌍 THE ULTIMATE TANZANIA SAFARI TRAVEL GUIDE

Everything you need to know before you touch down in (arrival)

🦁 PLANNING & THE WILDLIFE
When is the best time to see the Great Migration?
The migration is a year-round event.
• Dec – March: Southern Serengeti (Ndutu) for calving season.
• July – Oct: Northern Serengeti for the famous Mara River crossings.
• April – May: The "Green Season" (rainy), perfect for birding and avoiding crowds.
What is the "Northern Circuit"?
Tanzania’s most iconic route includes Tarangire (elephants), Lake Manyara (tree-climbing lions), the Ngorongoro Crater (The Big Five), and the Serengeti.

✈️ LOGISTICS & LUGGAGE
Why do I need a "Soft-Sided" bag?
Internal bush flights use small aircraft with limited cargo pods. Hard-shell suitcases with wheels cannot be squeezed into these spaces.
Constraint: Most local flights have a strict limit of 15kg (33lbs) including your carry-on.

Is there a plastic ban?
Yes. Tanzania is strictly eco-conscious. Do not bring single-use plastic bags (including Ziplocs) into the country; they may be confiscated at the airport. Use reusable silicone or cloth bags instead.

🩺HEALTH,SAFETY AND VISAS
Do I need a Visa for Tanzania?
Most travelers require a visa. We recommend applying for an e-Visa at least 3 weeks before travel via the official government portal.
• US Citizens: $100 USD (Multiple Entry).
• Other Nationalities: Usually $50 USD.
What about vaccinations?
• Yellow Fever: Required only if traveling from a country with a risk of transmission.
• Malaria: Tanzania is a high-risk zone; please consult your doctor for a prescription of Malarone or Doxycycline.
